classical and the romantic approaches

The classical approach of looking at things is about looking into the inner workings of the object . The 'know how and know why' attitude of the on looker drives him to delve deeper into the object's state and behaviour. Thus this approach or attitude towards the environment makes it easier for the inhabitants to mend the objects at their disposal at the time of their dysfunctionality.

The romantic way of thought is more inclined towards the impact of an object's behaviour on the onlooker's psyche. Thus a dysfunctional object which tends to cause discomfort or frustrations is maligned and disposed off.

In the book , Zen and the art of Motorcycle maintenance, the classical and romantic approaches and their impact on the way one deals with the environment, are explained. From what I could get, one needs to be a 'cultural romanticist' to live and love life.
